چکیده

Field experiment involving five improved onion (Allium cepa L.) varieties and carried out at Kulumsa Agricultural Research Center during the 2018 to 2019 cropping seasons under irrigated condition identify best performing variety for seed production target areas of Arsi Zone. The included in field were (Nafis, Robaf, Nasic Red, Bombe Adama Red). experimental design was a randomized complete block (RCBD) with three replications. Phenological growth parameters, yield, yield components studied. result showed that Variety had significant effect on most phonological attributes as well attributes. number days flowering vigorously significantly affected by variety; while plant height, boolting branch not influenced variety. Flower stalks height diameter, umbel per plant, diameter also Seed mean hectare significance difference among varieties. highest (1415.89 kg/ha) recorded from Red followed Nafis variety, whereas rerd, red Robaf show no each other, Therefore, it can be concluded use such is advisable could appropriate test area even though further testing required put recommendation strong basis.

Screening of Local and Exotic Onion (allium Cepa L.) Cultivars for Seed Production Potentiality

Onion (Allium cepa L., 2n=16) is a cross-pollinated and biennial short type vegetable and most of the important spice as well as vegetable crops throughout the world. Bulb is the main edible portion of onion plant, which is a modified organ and constituted by the thickened fleshy leaf sheaths and stem plate (Purseglove, 1988). The leading onion producing countries of the world are China, India,...

4. Physical, chemical and bioactive properties of onion (Allium cepa L.) seed and seed oil

Onion (Allium cepa L.) is one of the economically important vegetable crops grown in Turkey. In this study, some physico-chemical and antioxidant properties, volatile compounds and fatty acid composition of ten different onion seeds were investigated. The fatty acid composition and volatile compounds were analyzed by Gas Chromatography (GC) and Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), resp...

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of sulphur application on growth, yield and quality of onion at Horticulture Farm of Institute of Agriculture, Visva-Bharati, Sriniketan. The treatments consisted of six incremental doses of sulphur application (10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 kg ha-1) and no sulphur application (control, 0 kg S ha-1). Treatments were arranged in Randomized Block Design...

NUTRIENT DIAGNOSIS ( CND ) OF ONION ( Allium cepa L . )

Nutritional constraints often restrict yields of crops in farmers’ fields. Plant nutrient status is currently diagnosed using empirically derived nutrient norms from arbitrarily defined high and low yielding subpopulations above a quantitative yield target. Generic models can assist Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis (CND) in providing a yield cutoff value between high-and lowyielding subpopulati...
